Lexus is finally redesigning the LX after many years and considering how much Lexus has improved with recent models like the LS and LC. I think this will be BIG.
Few details are out aside from this insight and visuals that go with it:
All-New Lexus LX Coming In 2021
The first few details have emerged for the big SUV's replacement.
It's been over a decade since the luxurious
Lexus LX had a full redesign, and no matter how well-built and capable the big SUV is, age has undoubtedly caught up with it. Fortunately, we may not have to wait much longer for an all-new model, with a report from
Lexus Enthusiast indicating that a 2021 release date is likely for the new generation model. That means that the current model will stick around for at least another year or so.
The scoop was originally spotted in the Japanese magazine called Mag-X, so deciphering the details is tricky. What we can get a glimpse of is a redesigned rear-end with the increasingly common trend (especially on luxury vehicles) of taillights stretching across the entire width of the body. Prominent dual
exhaust outlets are also sportier than what we can see on the current model. However, several sharp-eyed readers noted that the new design bears a rather uncomfortable resemblance to the cheaper
Mitsubishi Outlander.
Mag-X goes on to claim that the LX will be built on a new truck platform and will borrow the LS sedan's twin-turbo V6. If so, that would mean outputs of 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, improving on the current LX 570's naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 (383 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque). The smaller-capacity turbo should also have fuel economy benefits. It may not be the sole engine option, however, because as we reported on in October,
Lexus submitted a trademark filing for the LX 600 name - this would indicate either a larger capacity engine than the LX 570, or a smaller turbo.
We're holding thumbs that the new LX's release date won't be pushed back any further - the current model already has to contend with newer and hugely accomplished rivals like the
Infiniti QX80 and
Land Rover Discovery.
