BMW X7 to Get "Ultra-Luxury" Version

In a recent interview with Drive, BMW interior design chief Oliver Heilmer spoke of the possibility of an ultra-luxurious X7.

Quote:
“As a company, we are open-eyed and we are having a close look at our competitors and this is where we are really dealing with it in an intelligent way... From a design perspective, any new concept is attractive from our point of view and every niche could be something new.”
An ultra-luxurious BMW X7 would aim at rivals including the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Land Rover Range Rover. There are also even more luxurious models from Bentley, Mercedes-Maybach and even BMW's own Rolls-Royce brand.

The ultra-luxury BMW X7 would likely get rid of the regular 2nd and 3rd rows of seats in favor of two "executive" seats. That will allow for more legroom, reclining backs, and even massage features.

The BMW X7 will be built at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina factory. It will be built on the lightweight 35up platform that made its debut in the new 7-Series.

We also have the Gran Lusso Coupe concept (pictured above) that was co-designed with Pinninfarina is meant to show what ultra-luxury could look like for BMW. This gives us clues as to what we can expect from any ultra-luxury vehicles in BMW's future.

Not surprised one bit, this is a growing trend in the industry, even Infiniti already did this with the QX80, no more middle bench style seat... you get 2 captain seats. With that i've noticed limo service companies using QX80's.

Although the current 7 series is a good example of what to expect, they might push for something more here especially with more and more high end luxury SUV's coming online, can't wait.

Could it be possible that we see BMW come out with an ultra luxury trim like what Mercedes did with Maybach?

I know they have been working towards getting into that space, emulating what Mercedes is to be expected but of course done in BMW's own unique way.

Consider Rolls Royce and Bentley are both getting into the SUV arena, BMW must follow suit.

The brand is also coming out with an 8 series, so we might see some things in that which could get trickled down... now to wait and see what happens.

BMW just showed off the Alpina B7, and that is as close as we'll get to an M7 or anything higher up from the current 750 (highest trim).

They just better not let Mercedes leave them in the dust, even Audi seems to be catching up.
